A Stor Mo Chroi
A Stor Mo Chroi (Treasure of my heart) is a 19th century Irish folk song written by Brian O'Higgins and, like so many ballads, speaks of travels, love, and warmth of home.
Lace and cable elements shine in this heart-filled blanket. Although actual cabling is minimal, the clever lace design makes it appear like it is much more involved. The blanket consists of 9 identical lace and cable squares that are then joined together. Each square begins with the Emily Ocker Cast On (picture tutorial included). The cast-on stitches are then divided evenly among four DPN and the pattern is worked in the round from the center outward. Once each square is finished, live stitches are placed on waste yarn to be joined later using a 3-needle bind off. A knit-on I-cord edging finishes the entire outer edge.
The stitch pattern is charted with written directions provided. The blanket can easily be made larger by adding more squares; this will, of course, require more yarn than listed in the pattern. Each additional square requires 220 yards.
The color used in the sample is no longer available. We have made substitution suggestions in the Kit Builder below.
