Absent Friends Shawl
“Small things you'd do weave pictures of you, they're printed for life on the back of my mind.”
The Irish folk song “Absent Friends” speaks of partings and memories. What better way to while away the winter hours than knitting this beautiful, cabled shawl while thinking of friends - be they far or near?
A gently crescent-shaped shawl, Absent Friends is knit side to side, starting with an I-cord cast on. Stitches are increased for the upper back portion while short rows are used to help curve the lower cabled border. The undulating lower edge is accentuated during blocking.
