Plaiter Sweater

The braiding of knitted cables often takes inspiration from other handicrafts, like the panels in this intricate sweater, inspired by the work of corn husk plaiters. With traditional two stitch braids, rope cables, and single stitch lattice cables, these weaving lines mimic the interlocking fibers of the hats and baskets of that bygone craft. Combining the old and the new, this cozy sweater is at once charmingly foreign and comfortingly familiar.

The Plaiter Sweater is a pullover knit from the bottom up entirely flat in pieces before seaming, with a boat neck and square set-in sleeves. Intended to be worn with 5" of positive ease.

This pattern is both charted and written out.
